Los Angeles Port Police

The Los Angeles Port Police (LAPP) is a specialized law enforcement agency at the Port of Los Angeles, under the control of the Los Angeles Harbor Department (WorldPort LA) and the City of Los Angeles. They are one of the few agencies in the nation that has a dedicated 24 hour marine unit. They have officers on boats 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and they are one of the few U.S. police forces dedicated exclusively to port activities. Los Angeles Port Police officers are sworn California Peace Officers and have the same rights and abilities as any other law enforcement officer and perform basic law enforcement duties, write police reports, etc. All of the port police officers respond to your general calls for service. They could be dealing with a domestic violence issue in a marina, they could be responding to a commercial burglary call in San Pedro, they could be doing a drug bust in Wilmington. The Port Police have a multitude of different divisions and task forces.
The LA Port Police Has
*The regular patrol division: Officers patrol the waterways, Terminal Island, San Pedro and Wilmington by boat, vehicle, motorcycle and bicycle)
*Motor Unit: Mostly used for truck safety on Terminal Island and other container terminals
*K-9s: Used for entries on land & on the water, used to search vessels and to detect bombs or narcotics at cruise terminals, containers etc.
*A marine unit
*A full-time dive unit: Inspects Critical Infrastructure and does Public Safety Diving at the Port of LA.
*Joint Terrorism Squad: Prevents Terrorism at the Port and surrounding region.
*Sea marshals: They go two miles out to sea on cruise ships & patrol the cruise terminals
*Bicycle patrol: Patrols all parks that are owned by the Harbor Department and Cabrillo Beach
*Community relations: Works with the local Harbor communities, and puts together meetings to discuss community issues
Physical Operations:
*Tactical Planning: In charge of planning "Event Action Plans"
*Intelligence & Investigate Section: Port Police Detectives investigate all crimes that occur on port property except for homicides
*Training Section: N/A

The Port Police do joint boardings with the U.S. Coast Guard to prevent crimes such as narcotic's smuggling and human smuggling.
The Port Police Operations Center is designed specifically for the port police and to assist other agencies in the event of a problem.
The Port Police's Threat Detection Center gives the port police a vast image of the port with the 700 cameras spread throughout the port complex.
The Port Police are in charge of making sure the United States crucial supply chain infrastructure is secure, and they also bring an impact to it as well. Keeping the free flow of commerce going.
As of 2008 the Port Police train at the LAPD Academy (previously they trained at the LA County Sheriff's Academy), followed by a two-week maritime academy at the Maritime Law Enforcement Training Center.
The Los Angeles Port Police currently staff 125 sworn officers and 96 civilian staff as of March 2015. Their motto is "sworn to protect, dedicated to serve."
